The development of humankind is characterized by technological progress. This does not only include the development from the first tools to the industrialized society but also the path from the first devices for agriculture to the modern methods of food production.
Technical developments change society. The invention of the printing press was one of the vital conditions for spreading education beyond a very small social class. New technologies in medicine are increasing life expectancy and are thereby enabling new forms of individual life planning for the first time.
Technological developments have been the basis for our prosperity ever since Germany became one of the most important industrialized nations worldwide.
The BMBF is funding research and development in the field of future-oriented new technologies in order to lay the economic and social foundation for the Germany of tomorrow.
