Projects in the framework of scenario-oriented security research

The scenarios provide the basis for ensuring that all natural science, humanities and social science as well as technological disciplines needed for developing feasible security solutions are involved and work to achieve common goals in application. The main goals of funding are: protecting and saving human lives; protecting traffic infrastructures; preventing the breakdown of supply systems; and securing commodity chains.

Projects in the research area 'Protection of transport infrastructures'

The focus of the research projects presented in this brochure is on developing innovations for the protection of different modes of transport, from roads, rail and air to waterways. The projects not only address the protection of all transport routes but also of related structures, such as airports, railway stations and underground railway systems or bridges and tunnels. Transport routes, structures and systems are highly networked and are therefore considered together in the research projects. Ethical, psychological and organizational questions regarding the use and interaction of systems and technologies will also be studied.

Projects in the research area 'Rescue and protection of people'

The research projects presented here are focused on scenarios in which attacks, for example, or natural disasters injure or endanger a large number of people. In addition to early identification of incidences and effective crisis prevention, the requirements concentrate primarily on crisis management through the timely and efficient initiation of rescue and security measures along with effective emergency medical care on site. Within the collaborative projects, comprehensive concepts for protecting and rescuing people will be developed with embedded technologies, action strategies and organisation forms.
