DRIVE-E - programme to foster young research talent enters a new round

DRIVE-E is the first comprehensive programme that fosters young research talent in the field of electric mobility. The programme is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Fraunhofer Society and aims to motivate students of technical subjects at universities and universities of applied sciences to pursue a career in the field of electric mobility. It consists of two modules: the DRIVE-E Academy and the DRIVE-E prize.

The DRIVE-E Academy will once again offer participants the exclusive chance to gain a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in electric mobility in 2013. The event will take place in Dresden from 4 - 8 March 2013 in coordination with the TU Dresden. The Academy provides an exclusive opportunity to gather information about all aspects of electric mobility, starting with mobility and vehicle systems and through to e-drive and on-vehicle energy storage. In addition to presentations by renowned experts, there will also be practically oriented workshops and trips to innovative industrial companies for whom electric mobility is already a reality. Another important feature of the programme is networking with stakeholders in industry and research and with other like-minded individuals from all over Germany. A jury will select the top 50 applicants who will then attend the DRIVE-E Academy free of charge.

The BMBF and the Fraunhofer Society will be awarding the DRIVE-E prize for the fourth time in Dresden on 6 March 2013. The prize acknowledges excellence in the field of electric mobility - whether in project work or in dissertations written for a bachelor's, master's or Diplom degree. Prize money in this round again ranges between 2,000 and 6,000 euros, so submitting a project could well pay off.

DRIVE-E 2012: Students from all over Germany met in Aachen

Students pursuing technical degrees in electrical engineering, mechatronics, computer sciences, automobile and engine technology, aviation and space travel, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, etc., met at the DRIVE-E Academy in Aachen in 2012. The attending students gained a personal impression of this promising technology at the test track of RWTH Aachen University.

Prizes were awarded to:
  • Fabian Peters of Bremen University (Department of Production Engineering)
  • Florian Hilpert of Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (Chair of Electron Devices)
  • Johannes Burkard of RWTH Aachen University (Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives - ISEA)
  • Lisa-Marie Zak of Augsburg University of Applied Sciences (Mechanical Engineering degree course, majoring in automotive and energy technology) and
  • Xuyang Men of RWTH Aachen University (also ISEA)
