Health industry

The health industry is one the major growth areas in industrialized nations. It includes the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology and medical technology as well as the provision of medical services. The Federal Government is helping to increase the innovativeness of the health industry and accelerate the translation of research results into practical applications. New ways of knowledge and technology transfer are being tested and efforts are being made to ensure that the legal framework conditions facilitate research and innovation.

    National strategy process"Innovations in Medical Technology"

    The Innovations in Medical Technology national strategy process is taking shape. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Federal Ministry of Health in Berlin have appointed a committee of high-ranking experts from the fields of politics, industry, science and health care. In the course of the next few months this Steering Committee will bring together experts along the entire innovation chain to jointly develop recommendations for action to promote coherent innovation policy in medical technology. The Federal Government is thereby taking up the challenges and opportunities of this field by adopting a whole-of-government approach in keeping with its High-Tech Strategy.

  • Hightech Strategy

    The Pharmaceuticals Initiative for Germany

    In recent years, biotechnological methods have helped us identify new approaches to many diseases, enabling treatment with fewer side-effects or even a complete cure. Many of the research results were generated in Germany. But in many cases, new medicines based on these research results are produced in other countries. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched the Pharmaceuticals Initiative for Germany in order to give new impetus to Germany's biotechnology and pharmaceuticals industries. The key element of the initiative is the BioPharma Competition. Its three winning consortiums have now been chosen.
