Information and communications technology presents companies in mechanical engineering and the electrical and automotive supply industries with new possibilities for tomorrow's markets. The key is intelligent technical systems which are based on the symbiosis of informatics and engineering sciences and which adapt to their environment and the needs of their users.

They create value in production, in the household, in commerce and on the roads; they conserve resources, can be operated intuitively and are reliable. The innovative leap from mechatronics to intelligent technical systems is being made collectively by 173 companies, universities and research institutes as well as other organisations in the it's OWL - Intelligent Technical Systems OstWestfalenLippe cluster. Products and production innovations are developed by business and science in close collaboration. The spectrum ranges from intelligent sensors, drivetrains and automation solutions through machines, household appliances and vehicles to networked productions plants. The new technologies are made available to a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises via transfer projects. The cluster aims to attain a top international position in the field of intelligent technical systems.
