For almost a decade, the partnership "PLANT KBBE" ("Transnational PLant Alliance for Novel Technologies - towards implementing the Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy in Europe") has been working towards increasing existing cooperation between industry and science and accelerating the translation of research results into product innovations. These transnational funding measures address not only the partner countries, but also targeted research institutions and businesses - particularly those of other European countries. These institutions and businesses have the opportunity to align themselves with existing transnational groups, but must provide their own funding.
Since 2003, 190 project outlines have been reviewed, from which 52 transnational joint projects were selected for funding. Around 100 German partial projects have been and continue to be involved.
The international division of labour serves to enhance Germany's position: German researchers, institutions, and businesses bring their own strengths into the process and, at the same time, profit from the competencies of their French, Portuguese and Spanish partners in support of innovative developments. This programme closes the gap between the national funding strategy BioEconomy 2030 and multinational research funding through the European Commission.
