Implementing the bioeconomy as a bio-based economic system requires more than just national and European initiatives. Global cooperation is also necessary to achieve the goals set by the National Research Strategy BioEconomy 2030 - which is where the funding initiative Bioökonomie International (Bioeconomy international) comes in. The goal is to fund international partnerships in research and development through exemplary projects that address relevant issues in the area of bioeconomy. In addition to technological issues and developmental goals, socio-economic aspects and system approaches will also be of significance.
The funding announcement was released on 12.09.2012. Project proposals can be submitted until 15.02.2013, at which point invitations to submit formal applications will be issued on the basis of selected proposals. A final round of evaluation will select the applicants to receive funding. Proposals should offer support to the national BMBF activities which advance the bioeconomy and contribute to reaching the funding policy objectives pursued by these measures. Joint projects should make an important contribution to at least one field of action identified in the National Research Strategy BioEconomy 2030, while contributing to the Federal Government's strategy for the internationalization of science and research. Preference will be given to cooperation proposals with Argentina, Brazil, India, Canada, Malaysia, Russia or Vietnam, but cooperation with other non-EU countries is also possible.
