In accordance with §§ 4f and 4g of the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has appointed a Commissioner for Data Protection to serve as a contact person for both employees and the general public. The Commissioner for Data Protection works independently and is at liberty to exercise his duties as he sees fit. He reports directly to the BMBF's leadership (Permanent State Secretary). Furthermore, the Data Protection Commissioner is bound to secrecy by law, thus ensuring that all personnel and members of the general public can approach him in confidence with any questions and/or grievances they might have.
The BMBF's Commissioner for Data Protection works to ensure that the BDSG and other privacy regulations are observed. He also takes appropriate measures to ensure that the personnel entrusted with the processing of personal data are familiar with the requirements of data protection. In addition, he releases publicly accessible data from the index of procedures in an appropriate manner to anyone upon due request.
