  UN Decade "Education for Sustainable Development"

  The United Nations have declared the years 2005 to 2014 the world decade on "Education for Sustainable Development." The aim of the decade is to anchor the ideal of sustainable development in all areas of education - to provide education opportunities to all people, enabling them to acquire knowledge and values and learn about behaviour and lifestyles which are needed to ensure a liveable future.

  Lifelong Learning Programme: European education programme for all

  EU Education programmes for the years after 2013 are currently being negotiated. With the newly planned European support programme for education, training, youth, and sports, up to 5 million people will be able to complete part of their education abroad - that's almost twice as many as in the past. This is the future EU support programme for the period of 2014-2020 envisaged by the newly adopted position of the EU Education Council. "Mobility in Europe contributes significantly to the cohesion of European society. The Erasmus Programme, for example, has enabled around 2.5 million students - 400,000 from Germany - to stay abroad. We're building bridges between our education systems," said Federal Education Minister Annette Schavan.

  Bilateral Exchange Programmes in Vocational Training

  The internationalization of industry and the working world is increasingly calling for qualified personnel with foreign language skills, intercultural competence, and knowledge of other economic regions and business practices. It is never too early to start acquiring these skills, which is why the Federal Ministry of Education and Research has supported bilateral exchange programmes for vocational trainees with the Netherlands, Norway, and Great Britain since the mid-1990s. The Franco-German exchange programme in vocational training was established over 30 years ago.

  iMOVE - Training - Made in Germany

  "Training - Made in Germany" refers to the internationally renowned quality of German initial and continuing vocational training. There is a growing international demand for vocational training from Germany on the global education market. Since 2001, the BMBF has supported marketing for "Training - Made in Germany" with the iMOVE initiative (International Marketing of Vocational Education). German education providers have access to a variety of services when preparing and realizing their commitment abroad. With "Training - Made in Germany," iMOVE advertizes German expertise in initial and continuing vocational training abroad.
