Kornelia Haugg has been State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) since December 2021.

She had headed the Directorate-General “General Education and Vocational Training; Lifelong Learning” of the BMBF since 2006. She has been member of staff at the Federal Ministry since 1989 and has worked in the areas of vocational training, VET programmes with other countries, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, education policy cooperation in the EU and general higher education issues. During that time, she also spent a period seconded to the Department for Education and Employment, London. She became Head of Division “Strategy and Planning” in 2000 and then Deputy Director-General responsible for research institutions and the German Council of Science and Humanities in 2005.

Ms Haugg studied domestic and nutritional science at the Technical University of Munich and Justus Liebig University Giessen. After her studies, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Economics and Consumer Research of the Justus Liebig University Giessen and then as Desk Officer for youth and family research at the then Federal Ministry for Youth, Family Affairs, Women and Health.

Kornelia Haugg was born in Günzburg, Germany, on 8 January 1960. She is married and lives in Berlin.
