Mare:N – Coastal, Marine and Polar Research for Sustainability
German Federal Government Research Program
The MARE:N research program will serve as the Federal Government‘s funding framework for coastal, marine and polar research in the coming decade. The program is sustained by a close working relationship between the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety. MARE:N is formulating new joint objectives for future research funding in the coastal, marine and polar regions under the umbrella of the national Research for Sustainable Development (FONA) framework program. At the same time, MARE:N is initiating a dialogue on research policy with experts from research, business, civil society and government in order to develop solutions for the future of the oceans and seas based on reliable information.
