With its national programme on the European Innovation Union, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research takes responsibility for strengthening research excellence and close cooperation of research and innovation stakeholders across sectors and borders. The flyer “The European Innovation Union – Germany’s Commitment to the European Research Area” outlines the programme’s vision, key messages and main fields of action.
The recognition of foreign professional qualifications supports the integration of foreign skilled workers into the German labour market and secures Germany's skills base. Many companies, hospitals and care facilities have already come to depend on foreign skilled labour and this trend is set to intensify. The Federal Government therefore introduced the Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Professional Qualifications Act, which took effect in 2012 and governs the recognition of foreign professional qualifications that come under federal responsibility. The 2019 Report on the Recognition Act is based on a monitoring exercise as well as official statistics and seven years of experience with the Recognition Act and it also takes a look ahead to future challenges.

Researchers and teachers are often confronted with copyright law, for example, when they use works created by third parties or create copyright-protected works themselves, i.e. they are authors. This guideline aims to help strengthen the teachers’ and researchers’ competence with regard to copyright matters.
The hands-on guide to vocational education and training
This leaflet about the Career Orientation for Refugees (BOF) programme is aimed at vocational education and training institutions, schools, policy makers and multipliers. It describes the core elements of the programme – workshop days, company-based training, courses on job-specific skills, specialist language teaching and an individual mentoring system. The BOF programme provides support for young refugees and immigrants who are no longer subject to compulsory education, helping them to find a suitable training position.
